Because it's a fad like ICQ, Messenger, AOL Chat, Classmates.com, Blogger, Myspace, etc. Need I go on?

By the way, if you have a gmail account you can log in using that user/pass combo and your name will appear next to your posts, as opposed to 'anonymous'.
The irony of posting the previous comment on my blog does not escape me :)
