Bloody River Hike

Today I hiked Bloody River here in Saint Kitts with B & L, two people I met here. Bloody River is so called because in 1626, 2000 native Caribs were slaughtered by the British and French and the river ran red for three days.

Theyre pretty literal around here.

Anyway, the hike was incredible. The ghaut or canyon flows over slippery rocks and boulders between cliffs of mud, trees and rock. There are a number of collapsed waterfalls to see. The highlights of the trip included two rope climbs that had thankfully been prepared by others, a bat cave, and the towering waterfall at the end. Since it was impossible to pass this final waterfall, we have no idea what came upriver.
