Why does it bother atheists that there are people willing to believe what they read in the bible, koran etc?
It bothers me because these people are not satisfied with keeping their deluded beliefs to themselves.
If someone wants to believe every word in the bible or the koran (or any other book of fairy stories for that matter) is the absolute truth that's entirely their own affair.
Sadly, many of the people who believe this nonsense seem to think it's their duty to impose their beliefs on others who choose not to share their delusions.
For as long as religionists use their Bronze Age books of fables to justify imposing their beliefs on society it will continue to bother me because I don't want to live in the Middle Ages with them.
Examples:
+ teaching biblical garbage as fact in schools
+ electing representatives to public office on the basis of their religious beliefs rather than on their ability to do the job and represent all of us
+ imposing their beliefs on others in matters of sexuality, fertility, birth control and same-sex marriage
+ using their beliefs to justify attacks on others - e.g. attacking abortion clinics and doctors, waging religious war and terrorism
+ restricting medical and scientific research based not on evidence or common sense but on the interpretation of a text written in the Bronze Age by people with no concept of modern science or medicine
